Congratulations to the Dawes County Junior Leaders 4-H Club from Dawes County for being selected as your November 2016 Nebraska 4-H Club of the Month!

The Dawes County Junior Leaders are an excellent example of young adults making a positive difference in their club, community and world. They serve in leadership roles as voting members of the 4-H Executive Council, assist with organizing and facilitating 4-H related educational workshops and contests and help adult volunteers during fair as Jr. Superintendents. Members are also called upon to help at local events, (setup/cleanup, trash duty, etc.), visit nursing homes and assisted living facilities with their projects and animals, as well as hosting two petting zoos during the year. The Jr. Leaders are seen as role models, exhibiting outstanding character and service in 4-H, FFA, school, sports, and other extra-curricular activities.

The club annually celebrates Nebraska 4-H Month by facilitating the “First Baby of February Contest.” Members obtain or provide donations for the “baby basket” given to the first baby born at Chadron Community Hospital. In addition, the Jr. Leaders sell advertisements to publish the 4-H Special Edition, a newspaper insert that includes stories, photos, and other highlights from the 4-H year. In 2016, members sold $8,520 worth of advertisements garnering a profit of $4,321.50.
