June 2017 Club of the Month
This month we would like to congratulate the Hooves & Hearts 4-H Club for being awarded the Nebraska 4-H Club of the Month for June 2017. This Club from Hay Springs, NE, in Sheridan County, has truly made a difference in its community. The club is dedicated to building strong citizenship and teamwork through various activities.
The Hooves and Hearts 4-H Club has only been in existence for only two years but has been up and running from the start and rapidly growing! This club has made it their top priority to help the community they live in. In November, they finished creating books for the local nursing home and delivered them to the residents. In October, they picked up trash around town and created tie blankets for the local hospital. Its members are well informed and very active in the sewing group, horse camps, rabbit project, cooking projects, swine project, and rockets.
Since the club’s existence, it has invited a presenter to help members prepare a 4-H Speech for the County Speech Contest and had members attend classes to learn about chickens and rabbits. Through the classes, the members completed Quality Assurance, made rabbit hutches, learned how to care for their animals, and practiced showmanship. The club members continually set up to help at the county-wide events. This club has grown from seven members to almost 35 in only two years! It will be exciting to see what this club conquers next.
The Nebraska 4-H Foundation provides the 4-H Club of the Month program to all Nebraska 4-H clubs throughout the state. Clubs can nominate themselves by telling why their club should be chosen as Club of the Month. A different club will be chosen each month and will be awarded with a certificate and $50 cash card.
