February 4-H Club of the Month
This month we would like to congratulate The Peppy Peppers 4-H Club for being awarded the Nebraska 4-H Club of the Month for February 2016. This 4-H Club from Wisner, NE in Cuming County has truly made a difference in their community. The club is very dedicated to building strong citizenship and teamwork through various community service activities.
The Peppy Peppers are known for their community service activities. Last summer, they collected over $500 worth of diapers to donate to their local Public Health Department. They also held a Diaper Dash at the local high school to raise the money. After the Pilger tornadoes destroyed the Wisner-Pilger middle school, the Peppy Peppers held a two day bake sale at the Wisner livestock show and raised over $1500 to give to the middle school teachers to replace items lost. Teaming up with a local church sewing group, the club recorded children’s books onto CDs and then donated over 40 book bags to UNMC in Omaha and to St. Francis Hospital in West Point.
This year, they are currently raising money to update the judging process at the county fair and other 4-H contests. So far, they have raised $250 by picking up trash after the Thunder by the River tractor pull. Each year, they have seven meetings. At every meeting each 4-H member shares a project or idea to the club during the club’s Project Talks. They also promote 4-H during 4-H Awareness Week by asking local businesses to display 4-H promotion on their marquee signs. Members wear their 4-H shirts to school and recruit new members.
The Nebraska 4-H Foundation provide the 4-H Club of the Month program to all Nebraska 4-H clubs throughout the state. Clubs can nominate themselves by telling why their club should be chosen as Club of the Month. A different club will be chosen each month and will be awarded with a certificate and $50 cash card.
